32 Spooky Tales and Books for Teens
These spooky tales for teens will have young readers devouring books in no time. From vampires, ghosts, witches, and urban legends these tales do not get any more suspenseful. Reading (and enjoying!) a good book is something I have always lived for. Getting your teenagers to read can be a challenge at times, but with this list, it won’t have to be. All of these tales are full of suspense, thrills, ghosts, and some really great tales. Take a look at what I found.
- Ask the Bones: Scary Stories from Around the World: A great collection of spooky tales from all over the globe.
- A Shade of Vampire: Stuck in a nightmare, Sofia realizes she will have no choice but to face her worst fear, vampires.
- Slasher Girls & Monster Boys: You will find a collection of scary stories from a variety of authors in this book.
- The Walls Around Us: Told by two narrators, one of them happens to be dead, this urban legend is a must read.
- Fear: 13 Stories of Suspense and Horror: You will find stories of vampires and werewolves in this collection.
- Roald Dahl’s Book of Ghost Stories: As this incredible author, Roald Dahl stated, “Spookiness is, after all, the real purpose of the ghost story,” this book lives up to that very statement.
- The House: Discover what secrets haunt the house on the edge of town while a newly found love might be on the line.
- Nightfall: When night lasts for 14 years and kids disappear, you know this makes for a thriller of a story.
- The Whistlebrass Horror: Do you believe in monsters? This story just might change your mind.

- Catacomb: In this third book in the series follows Asylum and Sanctum, you will discover why sometimes it is best to leave the past, just where it is, in the past.
- Something Upstairs: When Caleb moves into his new home, he never would have thought that a ghost already lives there.
- Run: Reid is expecting his life to calm down, until he finds himself in the middle of the forest, at night. If that isn’t bad enough, he has to start running from the hunters who are after him.
- Hawthorn Inn: Jack’s mom moves into the local inn, but Jack soon discovers there are signs of hauntings that lurk about. He gets more concerned as everyone starts to tell him the tales that came from the Hawthorn Inn.
- Moorehead Manor: Teenagers get trapped inside of a haunted mansion.

- The Last Orphans: All of the parents are no longer around thanks to a freak accident. Now all of the kids must fend for themselves in this spooky tale.

- Gretel: After ancient evil rears it’s ugly head, a young girl has no choice but to be the hero.
- The Seventh Day: As the apocalypse approaches, 17 year old Lou must take care of her siblings. Things get serious when a zombie like virus starts to spread through the town.
- Monsterland: This book is based on a theme park where you can be chased by a werewolf and talk to vampires.
- A New Darkness: You never know what you will find lurking in the dark.
- Teen Frankenstein: Follow the story of a teen Frankenstein who brings a dead victim back to life.
- The Silent Girls: Evil lurks everywhere in this story. Be careful who you trust.
- Vampire Academy: Take a look at how vampires learn to be the bloodthirsty creatures they are.
- Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: This spooky tale is a must read, especially before you see the movie.
- Darkhouse: When Perry meets a ghost hunter, everything changes and she has to give in to the fact that she can see ghosts.
- Anna Dressed in Blood: This is a tale of Cas who kills ghosts. Yes you read that right. He kills ghosts. A great storyline that will keep you hooked.
- It: The classic Stephen King book had to be included on this list. Although this might be aimed towards older teenagers, it is a great thriller that had to be included on this list.
