How to Fix a Leaky Gut
There’s not a standard medical treatment for leaky gut WebMD shares, ““We don’t know a lot but we know that it exists,” says Linda A. Lee, MD, a gastroenterologist and director of the Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine and Digestive Center. We are in the infancy of understanding what to do, Lee says. ”
There are so many components, there are multiple issues that need to be addressed in order to heal because every case is a bit different. We’re all unique beings with unique needs. Here are a few things that can get you started to help you tame your leaky gut!
- It’s pretty safe to say treating leaky gut requires adopting a clean diet, free of inflammatory foods, artificial sweeteners, and other toxins. Dr Oz says for healing a Leaky Gut ” An anti-inflammatory diet that eliminates refined sugars, dairy, gluten, alcohol and artificial sweeteners – some of the biggest offenders when it comes to inflammation – can be very helpful. Consuming lots of anti-inflammatory essential fatty acids in fish and nuts, and filling up on green leafy vegetables, high-fiber and fermented foods that help to promote the growth of good bacteria is also crucial.”
- Reducing your stress level is crucial, especially while you’re trying to heal. Try things that put you in a calm state of mind; yoga, relaxing hobbies, meditation. You may also need to lighten your workload, removing yourself from a strained living situation, asking for help with your daily tasks.
- Avoid medications like NSAIDs ( Advil, Motrin ) and antibiotics as much as possible.
- Do a cleanse – Your intestines cannot heal themselves if the gut walls have bacteria, Candida overgrowth, and/or parasites. These pathogens leak into the bloodstream and overwork the immune system, they can attach to the intestinal walls and make it impossible for inflammation to go down.
Take the appropriate nutritional supplements. This can make healing your gut go much faster than without them. My LeakyGutSyndrom.com recommends the following supplements:
- Multivitamin: A good multivitamin without additives is critical to make up for any nutritional deficiencies. Food-based, or better yet, whole food multivitamins will source most ingredients from food, thus allowing increased absorption with a gentler process to break down the nutrients.
- Zinc: A common mineral deficiency, zinc supports the immune system and healthy intestinal walls. Excessive Candida sends organisms out to pull away and destroy zinc in the body, thus worsening the body’s ability to heal. Up to 30mg of zinc can be taken a day for those in a normal range.
- Probiotic: A good probiotic contains good bacteria to support immunity, healthy digestion, and a proper balance of good-bad bacteria in the body.
- Cleansing Blend: While healing the gut, intensive cleanses can be a strain on the body. You can use a Candida Cleanse to keep a balanced body.
- Digestive Enzymes: When your gut is not functioning well, digestive enzymes help take a strain off your body by making the food you eat more easily absorbed. They help support properly digesting food and prevent common symptoms that cause discomfort after eating.
- Vitamin B12 is another common deficiency for those with leaky gut.
- L-glutamine is an amino acid known to support intestinal lining, and may help speed up the gut’s healing process.
