Essential Oil can be confusing, the following words and phrases will help you understand more about using an oil. The words and phrases listed below can be considered “essential” terminology of oil and aromatherapies.
Carrier Oil – is any oil which is used to blend or mix with an essential oil. Essential Oils are extremely powerful, even in a very tiny quantity. Carrier oils usually have little to no odor and no color. They are used to “stretch” oils so that you receive the maximum health benefits, without skin irritations and other problems which sometimes arise from using an undiluted version. Good carrier oils are ones like fractionated coconut which my online store has. You can also find jojoba, grapeseed or almond oil.
Basic 10 Oils – Although there are more than 90 kinds of oils, 10 of these oils can be used to treat a wide variety of purposes. If you want to start with the basics, start with these oils: lavender, tea tree aka melelueca, peppermint, chamomile, eucalyptus, geranium, rosemary, ylang ylang, lemon and ginger. These essential oils can be used in various aromatherapy and oils applications.
Diffuser – Essential oils are usually applied to your skin. Frequently however, oils are combined with water or a carrier oil and placed in a diffuser to inhale. There are dozens of different types of diffusers available. They all do the same thing. Diffusers spray oils into the air forming a mist, effectively treating an entire room with aromatic benefits.
Aromatherapy – Aromatherapy is the most common way the oils are used. Essential Oils are used in massage and diffusers to help us inhale the properties of the oils.
