Life in Alaska with Bears
I am not looking forward to springtime in Alaska with Bears. A brown bear in Anchorage recently had to be killed by the police. The bear had killed a moose calf and drug it into a south side Anchorage, Alaska neighborhood very close to a home we had in Anchorage. The bear unfortunately was just too close to people, especially families with children.
Another bear killed a residents llama (yes Alaskans have exotic pets) and 2 other brown bears came into the residents home yard! That would have scared me to death. But one gets sort of “use” to hearing about weird bear happenings. We also have to watch the trails we are walking on in the city because the trails go along a creek that are frequented by bears. You get use to looking at the ground for animal tacks. If you aren’t looking out for bears, then you have to watch for moose because they will charge you on trails.
We’ve had bears in our front yard in Anchorage, Alaska because they know when the garbage runs are! Now that I have grandchildren I am much more alert as to my surroundings…even backyards!
I had some appointments at Providence Hospital, Anchorage, AK and was told there is a bear loose in the parking area! The hospital was telling people to park in a different parking lot. Not far from this hospital is Regional Hospital and they had a moose walk into the hospital! With automatic doors, the moose just walked right in! What would you do if you saw a moose walking down the hall in a hospital… hahahahaha.
Living in Homer, AK we still battle with bears in our yard. Trash and climbing into our apple trees and breaking the tree tops! Ahhh!
I hope this summer brings a uneventful bear season to Alaska

We just had a small zoo break-out! There was a peacock on the loose, and that was cool! But, there was also a bear on the loose in a residential neighborhood! Going in and out of people’s backyards. It was being followed by police, bear-watchers, and reporters. Eventually, the bear had climbed a backyard tree…but, when the bear began to climb down, the police had to shoot it….because the wildlife people who were going to just tranquilize it, were late!!! It was sad, but necessary, I guess.
Wowza!! I have always wanted to go to Alaska. I can only imagine sitting in the hospital and seeing a moose walk by. I think I would be speechless.
The thought of a bear lurking in my neck of the woods isn’t very comforting!
And I would be totally gobsmacked if I saw a moose in a hospital!!!
