Is Canola Oil Healthy?
Oils….. I thought I knew most everything about the good the bad and the poisonous! As I continue to learn on this journey to eat gluten free, I was reading about how to help inflammation in the body. And information just FLEW off the page regarding canola oil I had never ever heard before! I thought I would share this with you!
You know canola oil has been touted as being the gift from heaven as far as oils were concerned, known as the “healthy” oil. You make up your own mind after you read this…but for me I don’t think I will touch canola oil again! Thankfully I have not used it for some years since I have switched to using mostly olive oil.
Canola oil comes from the seed of the rape plant and is known in other countries as rapeseed oil. The rape plant is poisonous to many living things. “It is used as an insect repellent and was the source of the chemical warfare agent mustard gas, which was banned after it was shown to blister the lungs and skin of many soldiers.” I guess I never kept up on war issues like this since this totally blew me away! I had no idea the rape plant was used for such things.
Canola gets its name from a modified Canadian made rapeseed oil…which was a lower-acid oil presumed safe for human consumption. Hense, the name Canola ( CANadian Oil Low Acid ). I am told in this article that the Canadian government paid the U.S. FDA mega money to have canola oil placed on the “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) list. There was no mention that animal studies done had shown problems related to the heart, adrenals, kidneys and thyroid!! NO human studies were ever done before canola oil was promoted for use as the “healthy” oil in the U.S.
Do you want to continue to use Canola oil?
