States have been trying to curb one of the greatest evils of society called drug addiction. Drug addiction treatment centers are available to help transform the lives of individuals suffering from drug/alcohol addiction.
I recently had to spend time with a friend in one of these rehabilitation centers. I was able to go as a companion to help my friend not be so nervous. The persons are given treatment under the expert care of a physician, with the goal of helping them to lead a normal life when they finish.
These centers are privately run as well as subsidized by government means. Their goal is for the improvement of the life of the person addicted, which in turn helps in transforming the life of their family. There are various rehabilitation programs which are implemented based on the type of addiction. Some of the centers specialize in particular type of rehab program for example, alcohol rehabilitation program, drug rehabilitation program and some are anxiety and depression live in clinics.
For those suffering a deadly addiction there are special programs. Guidelines for these centers are given the person undergoing therapy and special guidelines and instructions are also given to their family members. The motivation and care from the family is helpful to bring back an addict to his normal or healthy self.
The programs goal is to have the person drug or alcohol free after treatment. Goals are made between that the person and therapists for ways to learn a healthier way of life. The most important thing for an addict is that he has to have a will power and the support of his family to lead a normal life again. The biggest advantage of drug treatment is that rehab centers offer separate services for friends and families of the drug users, no matter if the addict is under treatment or not.
When we talk about addiction treatment, alcohol addiction needs special mention because it is the most common type of addiction. There are special techniques and programs that are designed to bring down ones desire for excessive alcohol consumption. These techniques are proven to be of great help in reducing the dependency on alcohol. Drug and alcohol addicts risk their own life but the life their family, community and society in general. In order to fulfill their need for the drugs, victims often involve themselves in criminal activities. Therefore, crime automatically comes down when the lives of these persons are transformed with the help of various rehabilitation programs.
Addiction treatment is not just for alcohol though. Many people are addicted to tranquilizers, narcotics, benzos and so many other drugs. I personally have seen how it affects the persons life and their families. The person themself forgets they have taken drugs and as time passes they become clumsy and often fall injuring themselves or others.
I learned from being with someone going through drug withdrawal treatment that it is very difficult and takes time. The addicted person may bring hidden drugs into the program, unless they are in a lock down situation where they are searched. Not abiding by program rules really defeats the purpose of the therapy for the individual.
Doctors, experts and physicians will always suggest that an addict should be admitted in to a rehabilitation center because this is the best way to successfully recover their lives and bring a positive change in the society.
If the person is a harm to themselves or others I would strongly suggest having them admitted involuntary, then address what needs to be done after a 3 day intensive evaluation.
Was this a beneficial drug addiction post?

There are many benefits to drug treatment and the goal is to get people who are drug addicts to a place where they can fully function in a normal setting. A drug addict does not think that there is a problem. Getting them to admit that they have a problem is the first thing and then admitting them to a treatment facility that will give them hopes of returning to a normal life.
I totally agree. And getting them to realize they have a problem is very difficult.
Drug addiction is a serious problem some of my family members went through it, luckly they went to rehab and they live healthier lives because of it!
You are very lucky.
Not enough people view alcohol as the dangerous drug that it is. Very addicting too, and causes destruction in family and tears lives apart. Thank you for commenting on this.
Your welcome
There are some people that this helps and others that just go back to their old ways when they get out. Sad.
Yes it is very sad. Sometimes they harm themselves even after having treatment. But only that person can make their own choices. It is hard to watch.
There are also the “innocent” who become addicted to drugs due to no fault of their own. Many are subscribed “Oxycontin” as painkillers for an injury and are immediately addicted and when they are no longer prescribed this medication they seek elsewhere (the streets) for a comparable substitute – like heroin.
Yes and it is good that they have cracked down on ordering oxycontin.
Drug addiction needs more attention. I have 3 family members that are police officers. It is not a gfood feeling to hear the stories they tell about addicts and situations.
Very thankful for their service to the community. It is rough.
Drug addiction needs more attention and resources for those who aren’t able to get the help they really need due to finances. Lack of finances actually inhibit those who really want help and change!! It’s sad.
