Sauerkraut. A popular hot dog topping, this food also has a load of probiotics. A serving of sauerkraut has over ten trillion bacteria! Buy the unpasteurized version, which has more probiotics than the pasteurized version. Also, did you know fermented foods like sauerkraut can help get rid of sugar cravings? You can make your own fermented foods, like sauerkraut and those below, right at home. Use Google and Pinterest to find how-to guides!
Kefir. If you can tolerate dairy products, Kefir is a cultured dairy product which is a very high probiotic rich food. Including Kefir in your diet can help fight against leaky gut. Leaky gut is the is the result of damage to the intestinal lining, and can cause issues such as gas, bloating, fatigue, acne and more. Many companies make Kefir and you can find them in the dairy section of your grocer. They come in smaller bottles or as yogurt. Here are some benefits of Kefir:
-
Boost Immunity
-
Heal Inflammatory Bowel Disease
-
Build Bone Density
-
Fight Allergies
-
Improve Lactose Digestion
-
Kill Candida
Kombucha. This is a fermented tea that is also loaded with probiotics. You can make your own, or buy bottled versions. It is made by fermenting tea with a culture of bacteria and yeast. This might sound scary, but these bacteria will actually help improve your gut health and balance out the good and bad bacteria in your intestines. Since Komucha is slightly carbonated, it’s a great beverage for when you’re craving soda or want something similar to soda.

To feel heathier and improve your gut health, start eating more foods that naturally include probiotics. Here are a few quick ways to get started:
-
Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. That’s where the majority of healthy and nutritious foods are.
-
Start small. Don’t tackle everything at once (quitting soda drinking, ditching chocolate, eliminating pasta, etc.). You may feel deprived and go back to your old eating habits. Eliminate one thing per week.
-
Use Pinterest to find recipes. This is a great way to discover new meals and also motivate yourself to eat healthier.
-
Enlist family and friends to join in. Start a healthy eating challenge, or get a group together to exchange recipes with.
Try adding in some of these foods into your routine, you’ll improve your overall health and also improve your intestinal health, which will help prevent a myriad of issues and potential diseases. Keep your “good” bacteria healthy and bountiful! I know it has helped me.
I’d love to for you to share any of your favorite probiotic rich foods in the comments below!

Thanks for sharing, I didn’t know this.
These are all very interesting but I too need something that is low in sugar due to health condition.
Also, other fermented food like kimchi would also be good. I like yogurt and kefir, myself.
we make kefir and kimchi. they are both great!

I love to drink kefir and yogurt.
I know I need more probiotics in my diet, but I don’t like the taste of yogurt. I was surprised to see sauerkrat on the list and these foods give me some more options. I keep some of the tablets on hand for when I feel off kilter.
I’m not convinced these would do me any good.
I have been wanting to start using probiotics and this post will be very helpful for choosing the best 🙂
It seems like I change brands of probiotics after each bottle. I’m going to try one that you suggested.
Really interiesting, thanks for sharing.
I am a believer in Probiotic’s.
I need to start taking better care of myself. This looks like something that I would like to try.

I am not taking anything at this moment because of something personal but thanks for sharing this information with us..
I take probiotics every day since I had 2 sections of colon removed. I feel that they help control gas and painful stomach.
This looks yummy
I love things that are all natural.
I know about probiotics i use them in my dairy! This article is very interesting i think everyone should know these things!!
I have made my own kefir and use it with milk it helps me alot!!
I’ve never heard of Kefir or Kombucha before. Interesting. I’ll have to try them. My mother was just diagnosed with(shoot, I forget the name now) but she has to be on a gluten free diet. They said it can be hereditary so I’ve been trying to incorporate some gluten free foods in my diet. I’ve been seeing things about Probiotics more and more lately & how good they are for you. So, I’ve been trying to incorporate some of those too.
I’ve known about probiotics from a seminar by Jamieson Canada. Unfortunately, I have histamine intolerance on top of my allergy (that’s why I bake gluten free) and lactose intolerance. That translates to allergy-like symptoms when I eat natural sources of fermented foods like natto, miso, and histamine rich foods like seafood. I ate fermented foods because most probiotic supplements do not take residence or thrive in our gut. It’s tricky to balance health and nutrition, when your health is mostly in your gut but, your body is missing something to process certain chemicals that benefit you.
Thanks for healthy lifestyle more power
Great!!
I always take probiotics after taking antibiotics.
Great info on probiotics, but if I didn’t have to give a comment on this post to gain an extra entry for the Kitchen-Aid Mixer, I wouldn’t have. This page is sticking my laptop up, and it has taken me at least five minutes just to get to the comment area. Happy I am done here.
This is really great information about probiotics. I need some after being on antibiotics for a long term infection.
I learned a great deal all about healthier lifestyle from this website.

I am very bad at eating or drinking anything that is not soda, but thankfully my kids are not like me; they love yogurt and drinkable yogurts. I’m glad it has such a helpful effect for them.
I am a firm believer in probiotics. I think it has made a difference in my families lives. I did not realize sauerkraut was a probiotic! I have heard about kefir from friends and may look into it.
Am wondering if I would like this.
I’m highly allergic to milk and all dairy among other things. So I can’t have kefir. I take natural organic non-dairy probiotic capsules.
I take the probiotics pills and I eat a yogurt everyday to help with my digestive problems.
Thank you for sharing that! I thought that yoghurt was the only way to get natural probiotics.
Thank you for this list! I am always trying to get probiotics for my family. I love Yogurt, and sauerkraut as well. I heard that Probiotics may be able to help with eczema as well. It is so funny that I was just looking into this for my son. Good to know, Thank you 🙂

One of my granddaughters has to eat dairy free/gluten free. She does a great job even when eating out. I will recommend this site to her.
I used to buy dairy-free kefir, but it’s no longer available in stores. I keep hoping some company will start selling it; I miss adding it to my smoothies.
Hi Charj how has you summer been going? I guess there are recipes out on the web for making your own Coconut Milk Kefir and Coconut Water Kefir. Maybe this winter I’ll give it shot. Have you made any dairy free kefir?
I would love to try Kombucha. I love that it’s loaded with probiotics.
Probiotics are so good for you…I know I feel so much better and my system works better when I remember to take probiotics of some sort 🙂
I really need to bring my focus back to including fermented foods. My youngest daughter is still nursing, and I can’t eat dairy without it upsetting her stomach (and mood!) for days. I miss yogurt like crazy, so I think I need to explore the non-dairy options. Thanks for the reminder!
Jackie the non dairy yogurts are pretty good! I’m lucky I love sauerkraut – but being german I grew up on the stuff 🙂
I have heard of kombucha but I have never tried it myself.
I have wanted to try Kefir for a while but I guess I am a little afraid.
Sandra Watts, just a tiny sip to see if you like it?
