Vacationing in Costa Rica

I love to go Vacationing in Costa Rica! I go nuts if I can’t get out of Alaska during the winter!    A couple years ago we spent some time in December at the Harmony Hotel in Nosara and at the Tango Mar in Tambor, both on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica.

The Harmony Hotel specialized in fresh, local foods!   It was wonderful Vacationing and eating Vegan!  I had not been diagnosed yet with gluten intolerance but oh I enjoyed the fresh fruit and veggies.  I have to give the Harmony Hotel 5 stars!!  We didn’t find better food anywhere else we ate on this trip.  Harmony had Howler Monkeys roaming around, we were woke up by their howls!!   Unless you’ve heard them it is very hard to describe…but I’d say they sound like huge wild cats roaring.  

Vacationing with White Face monkeys is not nice!

Our experience with the White Face Monkeys was NOT as nice as with the Howlers.  We came upon a large group who were all around us.  They were eating some kind of small fruits or buds on trees.   They would show their fangs and growl and grunt at us.  When they began to show their teeth…our guide said we had to move quickly out of their close reach because they have been known to throw feces at tourists and pee on them from the trees!! Thank goodness we avoided that but they did threw coconuts at us from high in the trees!  We were lucky no one got hit.   We got a few pictures of them but none of their toothed grimaces!   Yup this is a pic of me below, this howler monkey came up to me and raised both arms for me to pick him up….yikes…..that rather scared me!!   So we settled on holding hands.   We were Vacationing at the Curu’ Reserve and saw Howler Monkeys and White Faced Monkeys there.  What is your favorite place for Vacationing?
